We are organising a gig/event on the 27th May (bank holiday weekend) to raise money for the mental health charity M.I.N.D, and also to celebrate the 50th birthday of ‘Bloody’ Kevin Greenham, the 40th birthday of Gaz (speedhorn/victims) Smith, and the 28th Birthday of Alex Edwards. 118 years in total.
Why M.I.N.D = As the state cuts back essential NHS support, increased pressure on the services it does provide, combined with the mass privatisation/individualisation and commercialisation of health and well-being, charities such as M.I.N.D are playing an increasingly central role in the support of those suffering with mental health conditions. Many of us have or do suffer from mental /emotional health issues, and/or we know of friends or acquaintances that do or have suffered from such conditions that are likely to have used M.I.N.D in some way or another.
As part of the event we will be organising the following:
* Mixed bill of bands (punk, hardcore and more)
From midnight onwards:
DJ Bother Boots (Colm ETC) spinning classic punk, northern soul, and everything in between.
DJ Bus Replacement Service ( Pat Hygiene) spinning Soul, Reggae, electro and Croydon panpipes
Art exhibit: with the aim of getting a number of independent/d.i.y/outsider artists to submit individual pieces of work on the theme of mental health – can be wide ranging, dealing with these topics in the most broadest of sense – with the intention of auctioning off work to donate profits to M.I.N.D. It is not essential that work is on this theme, or that artworks are original – prints would also be most welcome.
*Record/zine/table top sale: stall holders are free to make a small donation if they wish
*Venue – Amersham Arms
Vegan Food from 2pm
* We want to get as many punks/labels/artists involved – punks/skaters unite to spread D.I.Y love and care – help spread the word
Kids are welcome until 7pm
We currently have a few bands/artists confirmed, but any bands/artists/zinesters/distros who would like to get involved please feel free to contact us if you want to contribute..
