Russian anti-fascists under attack: Solidarity demo

On 19 January 2019 anti-fascists and anarchists from across the UK will hold a demonstration in solidarity with our Russian comrades who are being arrested, framed and tortured in a brutal wave of repression which has put eleven Russian anti-fascists behind bars, facing obviously fabricated charges which could see them jailed for five to twenty years each. Two of the detained are currently on hunger strike against their inhumane treatment.

Facebook event: https://www.facebook.com/events/1954513344639049/

The repression began in autumn 2017 when six anti-fascists were arrested in Penza and had weapons and explosives planted on them. The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) tortured the anti-fascists in the pre-trial detention facility by electrocuting them, beating them and hanging them upside down. While torturing them, security chiefs forced the activists to memorise the testimony the FSB wanted them to give: that they were part of a fictional terrorist group called ‘The Network’.

Two more anti-fascists were arrested in St. Petersburg at the end of January 2018 and were also beaten, electrocuted and forced to incriminate themselves by saying they were members of ‘The Network’. A third person was accused in St. Petersburg and two more from Penza have also been arrested for supposed involvement in this make-believe organisation. The FSB claims that the detainees planned to arrange explosions during the presidential elections and the World Cup to “further destabilise the political situation in the country”.

After knowledge of the fabricated court cases and horrific torture became widespread, solidarity actions started to take place, but this led to more repression. Some Russian activists who took part were detained, electrocuted and had criminal proceedings started against them – just for expressing solidarity.

This repression of anti-fascists comes at a time when the Russian state are working with gangs of far-right thugs to repress the whole of civil society. One poignant example of this happened ten years ago, two Russian anti-fascists, journalist Anastasia Baburova and lawyer Stanislav Markelov, were murdered by fascists in broad daylight on 19 January. Every year, Russian anarchists and anti-fascists gather to remember them.

On Saturday 19 January 2019 we are calling for everybody opposed to racism, xenophobia, fascism and the upsurge of far-right populism sweeping the world to join us on the streets to express our solidarity with Russian anti-fascists. The demonstration will start at the Cable Street mural near Shadwell station, east London and will feature speakers and a rally.

Chaos Theory presents Warren Schoenbright, Riotmiloo, Metalogue

Chaos Theory presents three projects with completely unique takes on noise, industrial, post-punk and electronic sounds.

—————————–
Warren Schoenbright

A trio who make ritualistic tribal noise using guitar, vocals, electronics and drums. They play to audiences and appeal to fans of metal, ambient, electronic and even prog.

Their latest single “Excavations” was inspired by the abandoned machinery of a now-defunct haematite mine. Dominated by fractured absorbing rhythms, being in the room with them is an absolutely exhilarating experience.

Check out the single out on Vacant Fulfilment.

“A powerful and concise statement.” – Avant Music News

Riotmiloo

An energetic live experience, Riotmiloo is the project of the singer of garage-punk-riotgrrrl project Venom Seeds. Encapsulating the vocals, screams and protest of women’s real life stories, her haunting and powerful vocals create a cathartic and hypnotic rhythm and noise experience.

Often found performing live with producer Eva|3, the integration of post-industrial bleakness with riotous punk fury is an experience to behold.

Her debut concept collaboration album, “La Pierre Soudée”, was released via German label ant-zen in 2015 and saw her collaborate with different electronic, industrial and noise producers, reflecting their styles and weaving her messages into their music.

“An emphatic but balanced parlando with dark industrial sound punches” – Peek-A-Boo-Magazine

Metalogue

An electronic producer who we’ve seen performing at experimental, post-rock, industrial, live soundtrack and IDM events.

His uncompromising attention to detail, with his audio and tactile sensitivity, has led to an already broad selection of lavish records. He has shared the stage with Jarboe, Father Murphy, Huron, thisquietarmy, Only Echoes Remain and end.user, has EPs out on Abstrakt Reflections and Section 27, and is one of the minds behind underground IDM promotion Towards Collapse.

Tonight he’s going to play an entirely new set, with all attendees receiving a free digital track that will be unavailable anywhere else.

Hear Me Howl – gig theatre

Lights Down Productions present – HEAR ME HOWL, a one woman, rowdy as hell piece of gig-theatre like no other.

Jess is turning 30 and she’s just discovered punk. Some might say punk is dead, others would say she should really stick to the day job, but the resounding concern is: shouldn’t she be concentrating on settling down by now?
The play explores the characters journey via her discovery of punk music (& punk philosophy) and her story is told from behind and with the help of a drum kit and defiant, with drumsticks in hands, Jess lurches into an unknown future, one where she throws convention to the wind, and questions how much autonomy those with a womb really do have, here in the western world.

It promises to be a very punk, DIY performance, half gig/half spoken word, full rage! Through learning about punk Jess finds a way to express her anger at what society expects from her and she rages against the path her life is on.

We are at Landor Space, Clapham, South London 7th, 8th and 9th March at 7:30pm and 9th March at 2:30pm.

Tickets £10 full price, £8 concessions
