Who Killed Nancy Johnson? and Vacarm Le Rouge

Two punk bands (and a rock band) for free at the Mau Mau Bar, Monday 19th November. The bands:

THE FREAK ELITE Fab and groovy band formed in 2015 by Neil Anderson who plays sometimes with the Steve Dior Band and featuring on drums Michael Giri from the Lilac Time – Alex Marques on bass from Portuguese heavy rock band Iberia – and Eliot Mortimer from the Jim Jones Revue.

VACARM LE ROUGE Three-piece speed-freak no nonsense political punk rock and roll from a classic Toulouse band currently celebrating its 30th year touring. Rarely seen in the UK, we’re delighted to welcome them to London for the first time.

Reading group anarcha-feminism

This month we will be reading texts on anarcha-feminism ranging from some oldies with Goldman and de Cleyre to more modern texts analysing with hooks, Lorde and Dirik. As part of the reading we’ve suggested a few questions which we’ll cover in the discussion:

What is the difference between anarcha-feminism, radical feminism and liberal feminism?

To what extend are the issues discussed by Goldman still relevant today?

How can anarchist practice be more feminist (should it be)?

Although we’ve picked quite a few texts this month they’re short we promise!

Look forward to seeing you all 7pm 20th November at Freedom Bookshop.

Call Me Malcolm, Millie Manders & The Shut Up, The Foamers FREE ENTRY

Proudly presented by The Fighting Cocks Bar & Live Music Venue and Bangers Embrace Presents

Call Me Malcolm return for a headline show at The FC after opening for Bar Stool Preachers and The Lagan back in May and we’re ecstatic to have them back. A five piece ska/punk band from London, blending hard punk, a crunchy ska sound with three part harmonies. Originally inspired by the halcyon days of Goldfinger circa late 1900s, the band quickly evolved a harder, more sardonic, Random Hand style edge.

Millie Manders and The Shutup played one of the very first BE shows and we’ve been gagging to get her and her merry crew back. Millie creates cross-genre punk that is hard to ignore. With lyricism that pokes fun, draws you in or leaves you questioning social norms teamed with incredible vocal dexterity, grinding guitars, irresistible horn hooks and a pumping rhythm section, the Millie Manders Music Machine churns out more raw punk fusion than you can shake a stick at, with a huge amount of Pop appeal.

Local creatures The Foamers will be opening the the evening… playing old classics and the first brand new material in many years.

Black Water County, Blood and Whiskey, Boogedy Smak FREE ENTRY

Bangers Embrace Presents and The Fighting Cocks Bar & Live Music Venue proudly present

Black Water County are finally coming to Kingston. The six-piece folk/punk band from Bournemouth have built a reputation as an exciting live act at festivals in recent years, and were runners up in the recent Fireball UK ‘Fueling The Fire Tour’ finals at the Islington O2. FFO Flogging Molly, Dropkick Murphy’s, Ferocious Dog, The Rumjacks, The Dreadnoughts and Reel Big Fish…

In support for the night we have Blood & Whiskey from Staines… think what would happen if you mixed Frank Turner, Dustin Kensrue, Brian Fallon, Bruce Springsteen, The Cure, Jimmy Eat World and Johnny Cash.

We’ll also be joined by Kingston folk punx Boogedy Smak… The group take their influences from all over, from metal to Blues, Crust-punk to country and display this in their music by the change of dynamics song to song. We love them.
